Según confirmaron fuentes oficiales a medios belgas, las dos explosiones del aeropuerto provocaron al menos 11 fallecidos y 35 heridos. Inicialmente se informó de que el número de muertos en estas detonaciones había sido de 13.
Por otro lado, el atentado en la estación de metro, ubicada en el barrio donde se encuentran la mayor parte de las sedes de las instituciones europeas, ha dejado al menos diez muertos y un número aún no determinado de heridos.
El fiscal del tribunal de primera instancia de Bruselas ha confirmado que las explosiones en el aeropuerto de Zaventem se han debido a un atentado suicida, según la RTBF, mientras se ignoran las causas del incidente en el metropolitano.
Medios belgas aseguran que las explosiones en el aeródromo ocurrieron sobre las 08.15 horas (07.15 GMT), cuando se produjo una densa humareda que atravesaba los cristales rotos de la terminal, que era abandonada por los viajeros de forma precipitada.
Poco después, otra explosión sacudió la estación de metro de Malbeek, una zona administrativa de la capital europea muy concurrida a esa hora.
Este último atentado provocó que toda la red de transporte público de la capital europa quedara bloqueada. EFE
