The Venezuelan Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Vanessa Neumann, explained that the British justice system has not decided to grant control of the Venezuelan gold to Nicolás Maduro, but that the decision has been returned to the commercial court. The diplomatic representative said that the judge ordered the return to the commercial court in London, as the first instance to “get a more precise statement”.

“The decision clearly states that a de jure recognition is much stronger in a legal court than a political or diplomatic decision, because of the importance of this decision, the British judicial authorities are asking for a clarification,” said Neumann.
In a press conference via Zoom, the representative of the Government in charge of Venezuela reiterated, “reversing said decision has not achieved the recognition of Nicolás Maduro”. However, she emphasized that it prolongs the process of defense of the assets.
Neumann affirmed that Maduro fears that this decision has been reverted to the Court where he lost and which ruled against him, that indicates that seeking another appeal, “is something that would not be convenient” and consequently, she said that the regime “will not succeed”.
Likewise, the Venezuelan diplomat assured that the interim government of President Guaidó will always defend the interests of Venezuelans and valued the independence of the British court and the transparency of the legal process of the case.
The ambassador affirmed that the British Court has clear knowledge that Nicolás Maduro’s regime is accused of crimes against humanity, which in her opinion “are committed to obtain national resources and goods.”
